9 am. After waking up with a jolt, I’m now sitting at my desk ready to tackle the day. It looks like a challenging 24 hour ahead. Was told yesterday by client A that model booked to go on shopping channel tonight cancelled last minute - could I go in her place? Panic! Though it only involves lying on a couch while a facial is expertly administered - with practically only my nostrils showing - I need a quick eyebrow tint as no make-up allowed. And also manicure. A cuticle cream will be rubbed in my nails for millions of viewers to see.
9.30 am. Quick call to my local beauty salon. Would they be able to see me today? Manage to book a 4.30 pm appointment. Phew! That should do it. I don’t need to be at TV studio until 7 pm tonight.
Have business lunch at 1 pm. Client K and I are meeting new contact at the PPA for the first time.
Spend rest of morning answering emails, making phone calls and start drafting a press release. Not going too well as my mind keeps wandering to my “modelling” debut tonight.
12.45 pm. Arrive at restaurant ahead of our guest. K already sitting at table.
Cannot believe my eyes! K is sporting the wackiest nail art at the end of her long elegant fingers. Bright yellow acrylic nails encrusted with diamantes. Just back from NYC where she had her nails done by Jenny Queen of Bling, nail artist to rapper Cardi B.
I admire her gutsiness. She’s a powerful woman at the head of her own finance company. Who said the world of finance was boring?
I promise to send photos to Scratch magazine, UK’s leading nail magazine.
Our guest arrives on time. Luckily he has a sense of humour! After discussing all the serious stuff in the world of publishing, we find his real passion is for the Great British Bake Off.
2 pm. Our guest has to rush back to his office while I’m invited to pop in at the newly refurbished Annabel’s private members club across the road. Though mindful of my unfinished press release and the all-important 4.30 pm appointment, it would be rude not to accept. Anyway, I am curious. Am shown around the magnificent new premises and then settle at table in the rose garden. We are surrounded by impossibly glamorous women with taut faces and men with bulging wallets.
4 pm. Back at my desk and an email suddenly pops into my inbox. Invitation on a press trip to a chateau in France, now converted into a world class golfing estate and spa with 250 year old wine cellar. YES PLEASE! A quick check in my diary reveals that with juggling a few meetings I could be available.
Rushing off to my 4.30 pm appointment. Press release will now have to wait until tomorrow morning.
7 pm. With impeccable eyebrows and nails I make it to the TV studios in time for the prep before show starts.
8 pm. Lying on couch in studio, covered in blanket and strong spotlights shining into my face. All I can see is my nostrils and eyebrows on screen facing me. Will have to stay like that for two hours! Hope won’t drift off to sleep or start coughing. Occasionally presenter asks me questions and pushes her microphone near my face. Have to give some clever answers so need to stay alert.
10 pm. Show finished and at last can get off couch. Both presenter and A very happy with volume of products sold.
11.30 pm. Back at home at last with a glowing complexion and the softest cuticles on the planet.
12 midnight. Off to bed. I dream of bright stiletto acrylic nails in various shades of fuchsia, magenta, sunflower yellow.....
Tomorrow is another day..
