Summer's Here

9.00 am Summer has arrived, but sadly the luxury of taking off to the sunny beaches of the South of France or Italy is just a distant dream. For now anyway.
Today I have to get ready for a photoshoot with client G, the new face of the cosmetics brand owned by client A. She's also an actress and a finalist in an upcoming international beauty pageant. Photographer booked after a lot of headache and make-up artist lined up.

9.10 am Phone rings and am informed make-up artist cancelled. What?? Less than three hours before? What now?
No way can I find a replacement at such short notice. Ring G to ask if she can do her own make-up as she'd suggested before. Luckily she agrees sweetly, but am worried. She likes the natural look and she's beautiful, but there's a lot to professional make-up however subtle it is. Make-up artist going on my black list needless to say, but that's not going to solve my problem today.

9.30 am  Have about an hour before rushing off to North London, so work on some  social media.

Saw client Hotnails K last night and was admiring her quirky sky-blue nails. It's to match one of her clients' logo, she tells me, sponsors of the famous "Bol D'Or"- the world's most important inland regatta held on Lake Geneva.
Well, that's something novel! Why have I never thought of that ?
Love the wackiness of it all, so do some posts on various platforms that attract strong engagement almost instantly.

9.52 am Email lands in my inbox -  interview with G in one of the big national press online, arranged at least three weeks ago - is published at last! It's a large piece with as many as eleven photos and all the right links.
But hang on a minute! Heading links her to wrong beauty pageant. That's bad because of trademark issues. Ring up journalist but she's in a meeting. So send her begging email to correct mistake asap and hope all will be put right by the time I get back in the evening.

10.30 am Time to make my way to the shoot. G is waiting at station with large suitcase. Photographer had instructed her to bring various different outfits -  must dress as if she was going on a hot date! Hope she hadn't forgotten her make-up bag.

11.30 am Arrive at the beauty showroom where shoot will take place. There's still the small matter of make-up. A furtive look at G's make-up bag doesn't put stop to my worries - there's hardly anything in it!
Client A busy with a woman who'd just walked in to pick up some hair dyes for her salon.

But suddenly things brighten up unexpectedly!  By an incredible coincidence, the woman happens to be a make-up artist and for Chrisitian Dior no less! Make-up products are gathered from all sorts of  sources and within half an
hour the job is done! G looks beautiful. Talk about serendipity!

12.00 Photographer arrives and gets busy immediately. Outfits chosen, poses discussed. He's good at putting G at ease and making everybody laugh. He then asks us to leave them alone so as to give free flow to his creativity.

12.30 pm While photographer does his magic behind closed doors, I get down to some work with Client A. Her next show on  shopping channel needs to be discussed, products selected, prices fixed. Check my emails occasionally - still nothing from journalist - error in interview online still uncorrected .

2.30 pm Photoshoot finished, G and photographer emerge.  We all peer over the photos on his laptop - they are fantastic! Everybody's happy. Phew!

6 pm At last back in front of my desk. I pour myself a glass of rose
. Well, it's aperitif time, isn't it? and it's summer! Quick check of my emails reveals interview online might have been corrected. Click on link, but though headline has been changed - it's still not right! Aargh! How difficult can it be to add two letters??

6.28 pm A ping draws my attention to a WhatsApp message. It's from client K. Would I like to accompany her to a big Guild event in the City ? About to reply 'with pleasure' when I read on. She's asking me because I'm of a more mature age than all her staff, so more suitable to event.  Oouch! Another glass of rose might be in order.

10 pm An early night for a change. I drift off dreaming of make-up bags - all empty except for some bottles of nail polish in different shades of blue..

Well, tomorrow is another day ..
